“I don’t know what to do.”
“I have a lot of options.”
“Maybe that’s not for me.”
“I just don’t know.”
Do you find any of these statements coming out of your mouth on a regular basis?
These are the sounds of a confused mind. And when our mind is confused, we feel overwhelmed. And when we’re overwhelmed, we shut down. And when we shut down, we don’t take action toward making our dreams a reality.
Confusion is the biggest dream stealer.
When we’re confused or overwhelmed, we don’t think clearly and tend to over think things. It’s like being on a hamster wheel, thinking the same thoughts over and over and over again. We never get anywhere, we just spin.
How often do you pay attention to what you’re thinking?
What causes confusion, anyway?
- Choosing to be unconscious. Staying in that overwhelm. That’s a decision in and of itself.
- Too many distractions. When you have too much going on around you and don’t provide space for focused energy, this is the perfect breeding ground for confusion and overwhelm.
- Too many options. Being an entrepreneur myself and working with them in my coaching practice, I know exactly how this rolls. We lie in bed at night and our brains are ripe with so many ideas of what we can do and try and create and, and, and. While having ideas is wonderful and creative, having so many that you don’t know where to start is the perfect recipe to stay stuck.
The answer to overcoming confusion and overwhelm is: Make a decision!
Once you’ve made a decision, you can’t be confused anymore. Taking action is a surefire way to breaking the spin cycle in your head and moving toward your goals and dreams.
“But what if I make the wrong choice?”
So what! Start to think of your work and life as an experiment and get curious about what would happen if…
There is no wrong choice. If something fails, then try something different.
Personally, I don’t subscribe to the term “fail” and think there’s more learning involved than failure.
When Thomas Edison was asked how it felt to fail 1000 times before inventing the lightbulb he replied, “I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The lightbulb was invented with 1,000 steps.”
Too often we make things harder than they really are or need to be. Trust me on this. I’ve been the queen on making it harder in my past life.
